OOOH, i find mandarins absolutely...yummy. =) theyre such amazing little bundles of joy! heh. tis is pure love for chinese new year i say!
ohwell, the house smells like fresh coconut and banana and mango. can you say yum, or maybe 'BAHAMAS....' maybe not. the pies are going to make their trip to malaysia tomorrow, alongside me and the rest of the family! whooopdeeedoo. i hope the relations rave about them. It would be satisfying, and maybe i'll get full from the raves that i wont have to eat much, and then i can lose weight. WHICH IS TOP PRIORITY ON MY 'TO DO' LIST.
I MISS FREDDDD. =( it's okay, soonsoon. But i'll miss everyone else here too. my heart is split right down the middle.
Drama from the past few days of crying has dissolved with the buying of a new purple dress for CNY. oh guess what i found out while shopping today? i aDORE black. 'did u just figure that out?' they ask.
YES.
anyway my lovelies, til tuesday..or maybe wednesday,
HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR and EAT MORE coz that's what it's all about, really.

I FAILED! nono, lets be a little more positive... my experiment needs tweaking? lol. I suppose it would've been alot nicer if I was more enthusiastic about the experiment in the first place. I spent the morning convincing myself that the taste of a Lychee Lemon muffin would be nice... but somehow, the convincing obviously didn't work. HAH. and i realized, i bake heaps better if i were actually hungry. so lesson learnt: NEVER BAKE ON A FULL STOMACH. in any case, here's what i did...
Made a cocacola cake, but instead, used lemonade in place of the cola, added lychee pieces and omitted the cocoa from the recipe. Of course, the fact that i didn't have buttermilk MIGHT have played a BIG part. the milk seemed...curdled after i tempered with it. OHWELL, the italian meringue frosting was not what i had in mind. in fact, it was NOTHING like i had planned. then again, i never really envisioned the taste of it properly since like i had, i was unconvinced of it's potential to be a GROUNDBREAKING muffin. there goes. maybe i should make something with Kaya instead. i do love a good dollop of kaya. kaya and peanut butter? suggestions anyone?
oh and Vee wanted me to do a 'what's in my bag' thingy. so here it is!
The bag with my stuff in it...
whats inside... CK jacket, little waterbottle (singapore is HOT AS!), my wallet, my Gucci sunglasses, my handphone, liquid eyeliner (just bought it), supermarket shopping list, tissue paper!, plasters, piece of ppr with stella mccartney's fragrance sprayed on it (to keep my bag smelling good), lingerie (just got it!).there you go! whats in my bigbig bag. =)

berry me under streusel

Nic said she had a craving for blueberry muffins and obviously, i took it as another oppotunity to PRACTICE baking! =) so out came the whisks, the muffin pan and the cupcake liners. and in went the blueberries (mom got them fresh! from the market, sooooo delicious and sweet i refused to use all in the muffins), the sugar and sour cream. and the result! crumbly crunchy stresel atop a moist brimming with berries muffin. and because joshie was sweeet enough to walk to my place and deliver the cake pan i lent him to put the blueberry cheesecake i baked him, he got one too. =) now THAT'S a fair trade. heh.

one step closer
The kitchen was invaded by a waft of very French-ness today. I might have been slightly in awe and slightly upset i didn't bother pursueing learning french but hell, i suppose i don't pursue everything i want to learn (i still can't sew...) evidently, i am VERY tired because of the invasion, darn, and now i realize what greatness i was working with today. Christophe Adam, head pastry chef (you might say
executive pastry chef) of Fauchon Paris. ARE YOU JEALOUS? i am, even though we SPOKE ( like, ' where's the erm...' me: piping bag?) heh.I'M JEALOUS BECAUSE I AM NOT WORKING WITH HIM (well,...im just a stupid girl in the kitchen as far as he's concerned i suppose). IF ONLY... if only. but i mean, i might also be a little SHY to go near him and ask him WTH he's doing with the pot. oh yes i remember, it's castor sugar and cream. all the making of caramel. see! my basics aren't that bad hey? heh. i suppose i could go far.
MADE A HELL LOT OF STUFF TODAY. spent the morning straining stupid mangoes and telling the waft of frenchness where the various kitchen stuff were. I was pleasantly surprised to find we had ordered PINK piping bags. heh, i am so taking one of them home with me. made the coconut tart filling, lemon curd, custard and erm. something. oh yea, parmesan thingies. grating cheese is hard work!
OH the waft of Frenchness. I suppose it doesnt hurt that one of them mighty fine, andddd he kept smiling at me. or so i think. heh heh heh. i love kitchen candddyyy. the man type.=P
AUREVOIR.
